In this video another myog diy weekend project - 10$ Kayak made from branches and wrapping tape
This was a prototype #1 kayak, which turned out to be a success. Made from young maple branches and put together with mostly scotch tape and wrapping tape as a skin. For tools only hand held mostly a knife for cutting/chopping branches and debarking. I used a back of small axe to hammer in ground pegs for shaping inner rings and sides. Valuable lessons learned on type of wood and thickness. As you can see in the video the rings were too thin and 3/4 cracked, mostly during transport when kayak was tied to the roof - these will come handy on the prototype #2.
In the end I consider it a success as it stayed dry and held well. Total weight was 11lbs or 5kgs. It would not tip even though I tried hard rock from side to side. Hope you enjoy
PS If you do make one test it first in shallow water and use flotation vest. Stay safe
