Another covid-19 lock down project finished - new TENT!
MYOG DIY How-to-make tutorial for an ultralight 2-person tent. The tent weighs only 34.5oz or 970g and is made of silpoly and silnylon fabrics. Rain and hike tested, including high winds. Total cost @ 106$.
The tent design was inspired by a need for lightweight, 3 season, simple setup tent. It uses poles and guidelines for setup, has two vestibules and two doors. It is similar to Hillaberg "Anaris" or Zpack’s "Duplex" , or Gossamer “The Two”, or Six Moon Design’s “Lunar” tents or any other A frame, single walled tent. I watched many videos of such tents, mostly reviews, and some from people like Dubber designs that made theirs for inspiration.
In terms of fabric I chosen green silpoly to aid in stealth camping if required. For the floor tub I used 30D silnylon. It is not the best and most bombproof but the one I had at the time . I was fired up on making a tent and did not want to wait 2 weeks for a shipping. Also, from what I read online it was fairly good as a waterproof fabric and turned out fine during my rain test.
Besides, I always carry a light silnylon fabric tarp as part of my gear, and if need be can use as another barrier. I will discuss some issues in detail with the part 2 of the video. For now I will say that it has been my most difficult sewing project, and I would not chose it as a first one to start with. Nevertheless, it is not impossible, just tedious.
